David Ofman, Chief Medical Officer
David has worked with SFCCC for many years, initially when he was Medical Director of Primary Care for SFDPH and invited the SFCCC Medical Director to SFDPH primary care meetings, and later as the interim Medical Director of SFCCC and then 2 stints as the Chief Medical Officer. He enjoys bringing the perspective of clinicians to policy and program deliberations. David has maintained a clinic where he sees patients at Curry Senior Center for almost 40 years. He is married with 2 adult children; his daughter works for SF Girls Chorus and his son is a college student. His wife is a professor of Speech Therapy at SF State University and the Department Chair. He enjoys keeping in contact with his relatives and friends, except for the ones who want too much medical advice.
Beth Rittenhouse-Dhesi, Director of Community Services
Beth joined SFCCC in 2004, after working as a case manager, program manager, and mental health policy advocate, including five years in HIV and services for people experiencing homelessness at an SFCCC member clinic. Favorite parts of her job include oversight of SFCCC's Street Outreach Services (SOS), Veterinary Street Outreach Services (Vet SOS), and Consumer Advisory Panel (CAP) programs. She believes mobile services are the best way to provide care to people experiencing homelessness and recently served on the Board of Directors for an agency delivering showers and "radical hospitality" to people living on the streets. She loves the beach and raising her teenage son.
Lara Cruz, SOS Program Manager
Lara was born in San Jose and returns to the Bay Area after working in Sacramento for five years. In her previous position, she worked as a supervisor and case manager for adults with developmental disabilities to help her clients experience higher standards of living, but her true ambitions lie in healthcare. Lara is studying for her RN degree and believes healthcare should be accessible to all. She loves frozen yogurt, cinnamon rolls, and warm weather.
Boyd Williamson, Vet SOS Program Manager
Boyd brings extensive experience in both animal care and customer service to his work in Vet SOS and SOS. He is excited to be in a position that offers the opportunity to promote animal welfare while also serving disadvantaged populations. He appreciates the intense bond that so many unhoused San Franciscans have with their pets and is dedicated to helping keep these beloved animals with their guardians. Boyd loves hiking and finding new places to explore in the Bay Area.
Francisco Barrera, SOS Outreach Worker
Francisco grew up in Salinas and relocated to the Bay Area in 2019. Before joining the SOS program, he studied psychology and worked in numerous customer service positions. Francisco has an interest in helping the most vulnerable populations and brings his bi-lingual skills to support Spanish speaking clients. He passionately believes all people deserve human rights and supports Medicare for all. He loves to eat and knows where to find all the best pizza in the city.
Trevor Wong, SOS Community Health Worker
Trevor grew up in Modesto and moved to San Francisco to serve with National Health Corps’ AmeriCorps program, working in shelter health and street medicine. He spent part of his AmeriCorps service volunteering at SOS’s weekly clinic at a local soup kitchen. Trevor loves working outdoors with the unhoused community and appreciates that he can continue his work with SOS as a Community Health Worker. He likes biking around the city and rowing in the Bay.
SOS Providers
Dan Wlodarczyk, MD
Dr. Dan was born in Chicago, trained at Cook County Hospital and moved to San Francisco in 1982. Early in his career he volunteered at SFCCC member health center, St. Anthony's, then began working at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH). He served as the first medical director for SF's Health Care for the Homeless program; in this role, he helped start the SOS program at SFCCC in 1989 and has been a weekly provider in our mobile clinic ever since. Dan also works at SFGH's Ward 86, the first HIV clinic in the country, and mentors medical students and residents. Dan enjoys hiking, rowing on the bay and spending time with his family that includes 4 grandkids. He says it's been a great honor to work in the SOS program all these years and that the outreach staff inspire him.
Mary Mays, NP
Mary is a Nurse Practitioner who started working in Healthcare for the Homeless programs in 1990, providing medical care through SFDPH’s Tom Waddell Health Center to people living in shelters and on the streets. Prior to that, she grew up in southern California, studied ballet, and volunteered with the Peace Corps in Benin, west Africa. Since becoming a nurse, nurse practitioner, and midwife, she has worked in diverse settings including the Rio Grande Valley, Appalachia, and rural Nicaragua. For over 30 years, NP Mary has lived in San Francisco, where she raised a family, and still enjoys world travel, hiking and watching old classical movies. Mary loves her work with SOS and appreciates the support she gets from outreach staff and SFCCC’s National Health Corps AmeriCorps program.
Katie Taylor, MD
Hailing originally from Sacramento, Dr. Katie is a family physician who trained at UCSF's Family and Community Medicine Program. Prior to residency, she worked as a ski patroller, and received a Master’s degree in oil painting. After residency she joined SF Department of Public Health’s Street Medicine and Shelter Health team, where she has worked ever since. She is an HIV specialist, and also has an interest in adolescent and transitional age youth and addiction medicine. She has had the pleasure of working in the SOS program since she joined the team in 2019. Besides practicing medicine, Dr. Katie’s two-year old son keeps her busy. She is also a house plant propagator and is currently running out of window space.
