Twenty-four San Francisco Community HealthCorps Navigators Begin New Service Year

SFCCC’s AmeriCorps program, the San Francisco Community HealthCorps, conducted a Pre-Service Orientation on September 18 – 21 for its 2012-13 AmeriCorps class.  Twenty-four Community HealthCorps Navigators will be serving full-time through July 31, 2013 in local health care safety set sites, including SFCCC partner agencies, Health Department programs, and other non-profit sites.  The Pre-Service Orientation provided an overview of national service; workshops on the provision of accessible, quality, and culturally competent health care; and information on site-specific assignments, and included an AmeriCorps program swearing-in ceremony.  Program Manager Sarah Gordon is energized and optimistic about this year’s class:  “This group has such great energy and I can already tell they will embody the AmeriCorps slogan of Getting Things Done!”  Our AmeriCorps Patient Navigators began serving in their placement sites on September 24.  We thank them for their commitment to national service, and look forward to supporting their efforts and professional growth in the coming year!
