Planning to Action

SFCCC and our ten Partner Health Centers are excited about the Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act.  For many of our patients, for the first time, they will have access to health insurance without the financial burden of costly insurance premiums.  And for those recently uninsured, there is hope for the future.

As SFCCC and our Partners consider the next steps, we are busily preparing to educate our patients and our communities about the availability of expanded Medicaid (MediCal in California) for those with income below poverty level ($14,000 for an individual) or to enroll in the State’s developing Health Exchange.  The Health Exchange is a new purchasing pool that will contract with Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) to offer a comprehensive, standardized health care package.

SFCCC applauds California Governor Jerry Brown for his commitment to expanding access to care through expansion of the State MediCal Program and creation of the Exchange.  In the upcoming weeks, I will be discussing how SFCCC is preparing to educate patients, refine our systems to expand access to care, seek national accreditation as Patient Center Health Homes and provide the highest level of quality of care through a Team Work approach.

SFCCC is preparing to serve the thousands of patients who will become California’s newly eligible patients in a quality health plan with their health center as their primary care provider.
