On Wednesday, May 23, SFCCC staff and two of our member clinics attended a joint lobbying day with hospitals against the Governor's dangerous budget proposal to eliminate the 340b drug discount program, which would reduce vital services in the safety net without providing substantial state budget savings. At a well attended press conference, two patients spoke of the impact that eliminating this program would have on them. In visits with legislative staff Mission Neighborhood Health Center CEO Brenda Storey and other California clinics described how 340b savings support critical staff and programs in their clinics. Fortunately, the Assembly and Senate budget committees both agreed that this proposal was a bad idea. We will continue our advocacy to make sure that it is not included in the final budget to be passed in June.
