American Health Care Act Passes - SFCCC Strongly Opposes this Bill.

On May 4, 2017 the House of Representatives voted to take health care away from millions of Americans by passing the American Health Care Act (AHCA).  This bill would do even more damage to health care for Americans than a previous version, which was estimated to result in a loss of health coverage for 24 million Americans. The bill continues the previous plan to defund the Medicaid program and adds new provisions threatening people with pre-existing conditions.

Fortunately, the bill now moves to the Senate where there are indications that our elected officials will take more time and more care.  We cannot accept the House's version as even a minimal baseline. Please note that while the bill purports to give States "options" it would result in so much less funding for California's Medicaid program, Medi-Cal , that people in our state would still be severely impacted.

In the months to come we need to keep our Senators informed about our concerns and thank them when they speak up.  If the Senate passes a bill, it will then be reconciled with the House version.  San Francisco's CongresswomenPelosi and Speier, have been strong voices AGAINST the cynical move represented by the AHCA, and our California Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamila Harris, are expected to defend their constituents on this matter. It is important to thank those who stand with us, keep up the pressure, and educate people you know in other districts and states about the damage this bill would create.
