San Francisco Community HealthCorps Members Explore and Serve in the Ternderloin

On Friday, April 15 our AmeriCorps team, SF Community HealthCorps, served meals at Glide to local residents. Before the meal, they were led on a guided tour through the Tenderloin (TL) by a TL local, Del Seymour. Del shared his vast knowledge of the TL and his goal to help low-income and homeless folks in the TL learn job skills in customer service and tech. Seymour’s goals come during a time of gentrification and great economic change in San Francisco. Del has a “if you can’t beat ‘em, join 'em” mentality. He believes that the changes the tech scene have brought to San Francisco are acceptable, as long as original residents are not pushed out.

We also had the pleasure of sitting down with Aneeka Chaudhry, senior health policy advisor in Mayor Ed Lee’s office. Chaudhry answered some burning questions HealthCorps members had on a variety of topics from her journey to her current role in public health to where she sees the future of San Francisco’s health insurance going.

It was a productive and informative day for SF Community HealthCorps in the Tenderloin, thanks to Noorin at HealthRight360 for her preparation and hard work!
