Title X is the nation’s only grant program solely dedicated to providing family planning and other preventive health care to low-income, under-insured, and uninsured individuals who otherwise would lack access to care. .
The House Appropriations Labor-HHS Subcommittee recently released funding proposal calls for the elimination of the Title X federal family planning program. Unfortunately, the Senate Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Subcommittee proposal also significantly cuts the program in the fiscal year 2016 spending bill.
This is a serious threat to the future of this vital program.
Title X serves 4.7 million patients nationwide and over one million women men and teens in California annually.
Every year Title X prevents 1.5 million unintended pregnancies, 500,000 unplanned births and nearly 400,000 abortions.
Since FY 2010, the program has been cut by $31 million.
An elimination of the program would devastate the family planning network's ability to provide health services to the millions across California and the country who rely on Title X for care.
