| Founded By: |
GHS was founded
as a partnership between The Glide Foundation, the University of California
San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing, and Catholic Healthcare West/Saint
Francis Medical Center. |
Philosophy |
| Mission: |
GHS is a core program of the Glide Foundation and Glide Memorial
United Methodist Church, which has a 40-year history of service
and advocacy on behalf of the poor, homeless and disenfranchised
in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. GHS serves as a “gateway”,
or point of initial contact, for many of the needy and homeless
who come to Glide seeking services, such as Glide’s addiction
recovery and empowerment programs. GHS has a four-part mission:
- To support the Glide Memorial Church’s mission of empowerment
and healing through the provision of high quality, accessibly,
culturally sensitive primary and urgent health care that helps
to meet the client’s heath care priorities in a manner that
promotes dignity, unconditional love and recovery.
- To improve the health status of the target population through
effective health maintenance and promotion programs.
To offer a unique, coordinated and comprehensive health care delivery
approach that integrates Glide’s social services programs
with the Glide Health Clinic’s services.
- To provide the UCSF School of Nursing, Catholic HealthCare
West and other clinic partners with opportunities to further their
missions of educating health care providers, conducting health
research and providing neighborhood based health care services
in concert with meeting the needs of the Glide population.
