Job Description:
The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-service health care facility offering comprehensive health services for ambulatory patients. The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/Gyn, and HIV Services. The Center is committed to high quality, culturally competent primary care services, focusing on the Latino/Spanish-speaking population.
General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:
In coordination with the Clinic Manager, the Assistant Clinic Coordinator oversees day to day aspects of clinic operations including patient flow, patient preparation, chart preparation, patient disposition, select quality assurance measures, and monitoring of medical assistant activity. Contributes to the evaluation of the medical assistantsf performance, and effective interdepartmental communications.
Reporting Relationship:
Reports to and is directly responsible to the Adult Medicine Clinical Coordinator and Nurse Practitioner/Clinic Manager.
Responsibilities:

Supervises patient flow in the department and assures prompt preparation of patients for medical evaluation with proactive response to possible barriers to effective patient care, such as location of charts and lab results. Actively participates and serves as a key resource in the development and maintenance of the clinic flow, and is the direct resource for medical assistants serving high-needs patients.

Responsible for the overall coordination of the medical assistantsf day to day functions including assignments to medical providers and front desk reception to ensure adequate coverage.

Orients, trains and coaches new hires and current medical assistants to paperwork/forms, front desk registration, discharge processes and data entry programs.

Ensures the integrity of registry data and fosters proactive chronic disease management by the Adult Medicine Team.

Acts as a key contact for various research projects and assumes all responsibilities therein e.g. scheduling meetings, blocking provider schedules, fielding calls, etc.

Supervises the appropriate stocking of the patient rooms in the department including cleaning, sterilizing, ordering supplies, maintaining registry and diabetic medical logs (e.g. TB log).

Oversees and monitors instruments and equipment to ensure they are functioning properly and communicates needs for repair or replacement.

Anticipates needs, develops systems and train staff to ensure effective patient flow, patient discharge procedures, drop-in policies and procedures in conjunction with the Nurse Practitioner Clinic Manager.

Monitors medical assistantsf daily functions and contributes to the performance evaluations of the medical assistants in conjunction with the Nurse Practitioner/Clinic Manager.

Performs routine medical assistant duties and assists the medical assistants as needed (particularly as they relate to starting the clinic in a timely manner and maintaining clinic flow).

Directly participates in supporting team approach to process improvement projects in conjunction with the Adult Medicine Clinical Director, Nurse Practitioner/Clinic Manager and Chief Operating Officer.

Participates in quality improvement activities together with the Nurse Practitioner/ Clinic Manager and identifies, gathers and analyzes information to resolve problems in a timely manner with particular attention to the programs and registries for chronic diseases.

Actively participates in the team plan for clinic management and constructively revises plan in response to identified inefficiencies.

Actively participates in department meetings, including presenting new department initiatives and acts as a liaison between clinic management and medical assistant.

Assists the triage staff by ensuring proper support is provided to them that facilitate clinic flow.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Nurse Practitioner/Clinic Manager and/or Nursing Director.

Qualifications:

Bachelorfs degree preferred and Associates degree required.

Bilingual Spanish/English.

Experience in community clinical setting for a minimum of four (4) years

Knowledge and understanding of Latino communities/culture preferable.

Ability to work independently and in a team approach exercising good judgment in evaluating situations and rendering decisions.

Ability to identify problems, gather information and skillfully and resolve problems in a timely manner, and direct staff.

Good communication and interpersonal skills with staff and clients is essential.

Knowledge of interdepartmental operations such as appointment systems, medical records, registration processes. Familiarity with intra and inter agency health systems.
