Job Description:

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITY

Under the direct supervision of the Nursing Team Supervisor, with indirect supervision by the Clinic Administrator, the Medical Assistant II performs medical assistant duties, and maintains high standards of patient care.

 

MAJOR DUTIES

1.       Takes and records temperatures, respiration, blood pressure, and pulse, as well as other information relevant to patient visits and within the scope of practice.

2.       Under the direction of clinic physicians, administers the following treatments and diagnostic tests:

·         ECGs

·         UPTs

·         Urinalysis

·         Hgb Testing

·         Vision Screenings

·         PPD

·         Immunizations

·         Specimen Collection

·         Nebulizer Treatment

·         Rapid Strep Tests

·         Injections

·         Capillary Glucose

3.       Maintains patient charts and records in accordance with standard practices.

4.       Maintains a safe, secure, and clean environment; maintains adequate supplies and equipment in assigned areas.

5.       Attends and participates in clinic and community meetings, as is appropriate or required.

6.       Assists in providing coverage for the Adult or Pediatric Clinic when requested to do so by the Nursing Team Supervisor.

7.       Performs related duties as required by the Nursing Team Supervisor.

8.       Adheres to SAF client confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines.  Adheres to Child Abuse and Domestic Violence reporting guidelines.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.       Completion of high school, supplemented by graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program required or substantial training and experience.

2.       Possession of CPR Certificate.

3.       Minimum 2 years experience in a health care setting strongly preferred.

4.       Bilingual in English and Spanish or Asian dialect, especially Cantonese or Vietnamese.

5.       The ability to work cooperatively with others in a fast-paced, busy department.

6.       The ability to use good judgment in unusual and emergent situations.

7.       Commitment to St. Anthony Foundation Statement of Values and to the preservation of appropriate health care to the uninsured and poor.

8.       Excellent interpersonal, listening, and oral and written communication skills.

9.       Computer and word processing skills required.

10.   Ability to work with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse patient population.

11.   Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.

12.   Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.

13.   Excellent work habits: punctual, reliable, cooperative, team player.
