Job Description:

Lyon-Martin provides personalized healthcare and support services to women and transgender people, regardless of their ability to pay.

 

The Medical Assistant – Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for care of patients, including taking vital signs, performing laboratory procedures, performing in-house diagnostic testing and injections, assisting providers with procedures, and assisting patients in navigating the larger health care system.  S/he is expected to provide all patient care in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner, to maintain a high degree of professional competence and the highest possible ethical standards, and to function as part of a care-giving team.

 

In addition, this staff member will have dedicated time to serve as Lyon-Martin’s Volunteer Coordinator.  S/he will recruit, train and coordinate volunteers, both for day-to-day clinic activities and for special events. 

 

Work Schedule/Salary:

The work schedule is Monday – Friday, full-time, with some evening and weekend hours required.  Salary is commensurate with experience.

 

Education and Skills:

  • College degree or equivalent experience; Medical Assistant certificate preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Solid understanding of medical concepts and infection control
  • Written and verbal literacy and ability to explain medical concepts
  • Working knowledge of patient management software
  • Strong phlebotomy skills preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Creativity and enthusiasm in recruiting and maintaining good relationships with volunteers/volunteer organizations, and fostering team spirit and commitment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, demonstrating good judgment in unusual and emergent situations
  • Ability to work independently and mange multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Flexibility and comfort in anticipating and managing change in a small, fast-paced non-profit clinic
  • Computer literacy

Experience:

  • Prior medical office experience preferred
  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers preferred
  • Experience working with homeless, mentally ill, & substance using patients using harm reduction principles
  • Experience working with populations with varying lifestyles, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and economic status
  • Experience working with lesbian, bisexual and transgender patients
