Richard “Dick” Hodgson Receives Hero Award

In February, SFCCC, community clinics across the State and patients experienced a huge loss with the unexpected passing of Dick Hodgson.  For over 10 years Dick served as the Vice President of Policy & Planning for SFCCC.  Prior to his work, Dick served as Senior Planner for the San Francisco Health Department.  On Thursday, October 11, 2012, California Primary Care Association honored Dick with the CPCA Hero Award in their Annual Meeting held in Burlingame.  With an attendance of over 350 attendees, CPCA recognized the life time achievement of this health care leader who fought to assure the voice of the uninsured, underinsured (patients with high deductibles they often cannot afford) and community health centers was heard from San Francisco to Sacramento to Washington.  Accepting the award, Dick’s lifetime partner, Jim Gahl, shared how Dick loved his job and often told Jim he felt like he was making a real difference.  SFCCC Board Chair, Ana Valdes, MD, stated “Dick was the ‘go to person’ for patients, providers, Board and community!  He is missed every day!”
