SFCCC Goes to Washington!!!!

San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium's Board Members and CEO traveled to Washington, DC the last week of February to meet with California elected officials and the head of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Federal Agency that has oversight on Medicare & Medicaid.

In these extremely critical meetings, the Delegation explained how California Governor Brown’s budget proposal will shred the California health care safety net. Representatives explained how a re-defined MediCal payment system will reduce access to care through reduced appointments, cease the opening of new clinic locations and potentially result in major financial challenges for a newly build health center with bank financing. The Team further reminded leaders that community health centers are the most effective way to keep people out of emergency rooms for primary care needs.

In closing, Federal elected and appointed officials were reminded that in a recent Government Study, Community Health Centers were determined one of the top 10 Federally funded programs on costs, efficiency and effectiveness.
