Governor Attacks Clinics When Clinics Preparing to Expand Access to Care

Governor Brown has an ill-conceived budget proposal that will hurt thousands of uninsured, MediCal, Medicare and Healthy Family Patients!  Under Federal Legislation, Federally funded community health centers are provided with a unique MediCal and Medicare payment system  to assure that Federal Grants funds are fully maximized for the uninsured.  Under the Governor’s Budget, funding to your local health center will be reduced by trying to change our payment system.  This poorly developed policy is considered as community health centers prepare to serve 40 million patients nationally over the next five years, an increase by 17 million over our current service level.
Community health centers are the City’s most effective and efficient alternative to costly emergency room care.  Should the Governor succeed, your local center may be forced to reduce service, close sites or eliminate services.  In a time when health care costs are escalating it does not make sense to cut $25M in MediCal.

Please write Governor Brown and tell him to support access to community based health center care by withdrawing his plan to re-structure the Health Center Prospective Payment System.
