Lively and Informative Development Group Meeting!

On Thursday, September 22, 2011 the SFCCC Development Group, held the first of our planned quarterly meetings. The group consists of staff members from SFCCC and our partner clinics who have the jobs of researching grant opportunities and producing grant proposals requesting funding and support for the work. It is a peer group that gets together to hear first hand from an invited Funder, to share best practices, and to also share information regarding foundation and corporation funding opportunities that may be available. At the September 22 meeting we were delighted to have Lucette DeCorde; Group Leader, Safety Net and Contributions, Community Benefit Programs, Northern California Region, Kaiser Permanente, join us as Guest Speaker. Kaiser is a major private sector funder for SFCCC and its clinics. The Kaiser support, through grants and technical assistance, has been invaluable with regard to helping us improve access to care and health outcomes for all patients and continuing to upgrade and optimize our systems of care. Lucette talked specifically about a recent Request for Proposal (RFP) process that Kaiser had conducted for Quality Improvement (QI) grants. She provided a detailed critique of the process that was informative and educational. "It is always helpful to hear directly from a Funder, about their expectations and process," said one attendee, "Nothing beats hearing this kind of information from the source."
