Community Health Careers for UCSF Students

On October 20, SFCCC Vice President and SF AHEC Center Director Allen Meyer met with more than fifty UCSF Medical, Nursing and Dental students, to encourage them to pursue careers in community health. He described how community health centers serve medically needed populations, and explained the key role these clinics are expected to play under federal health care reform, as patient-centered health homes. The meeting also featured W. Gary Hlady, MD, Captain in the US Public Health Service and HRSA Regional Supervisor, Bureau of Clinician Recruitment & Service, who provided information on federal scholarship and loan repayment opportunities for those who commit to working in health profession shortage areas.
