California Smoker's Helpline 1-800-NO-BUTTS

The California Smokers’ Helpline has received a high volume of calls from Medi-Cal members.  As of July 31, 2015, the  Medi-Cal Incentives to Quit Smoking (MIQS) Project, which offered $20 gift cards  and  free nicotine patches will end.  The MIQS Project has received over 83,000 calls and enrolled more than 45,000 smokers since the project started in March 2012.

After July 31, Medi-Cal smokers may continue to call the Helpline at 1-800-NO-BUTTS for free telephonic tobacco cessation counseling services in six languages (English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Vietnamese). Medi-Cal members have FDA-approved tobacco cessation medications and counseling options covered by their Medi-Cal Managed Care Plan. Fee for Service providers may also prescribe FDA-approved tobacco cessation medications.
