The Alliance for Rural Community Health (ARCH) is a non-profit consortium of community health centers which provide comprehensive outpatient primary care health services in northern California. ARCH serves as the operating site for the Community HealthCorps of Northern California, with HealthCorps Member placements throughout Humboldt, Mendocino, Lake and Sonoma Counties. Its mission is to engage community members in service with the goal of improving access to comprehensive, affordable, and culturally appropriate health care for those in need. HealthCorps members are assigned to one of ten community clinic sites or community health organizations located throughout Northern California. Several of our placement sites are in very small geographically- isolated communities; others are in small or medium-sized towns in largely rural counties. CVHN health centers provide services to low-income and medically underserved persons throughout the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys, regardless of the patient's ability to pay. www.fhcn.org The Family HealthCare Network (FHCN) is comprised of ten community health centers in Tulare and Kings Counties. These are mostly rural areas with vast expanses of land where many unincorporated towns and converted farm labor camps lay hidden. FHCN is the principle source for regular preventive services and immunizations to children in Tulare County. LifeLong Medical Care is a community health center with five health centers located throughout Berkeley and Oakland. LifeLong’s service model consists of a full range of primary medical care and preventive services for people of all ages and all ethnic communities provided in a culturally sensitive manner. The San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium (SFCCC) is a non-profit organization that leads and supports a partnership of ten community-based clinics that provide primary care services to ethnically and culturally diverse groups of San Francisco’s low-income population. Its mission is to engage community members in service with the goal of improving access to comprehensive, affordable, and culturally appropriate health care for San Francisco’s underserved populations. SFCCC advocates for the health needs of patients at each clinic by operating a Street Outreach Services (SOS) program, conducting health education classes, and providing training and technical assistance to all sites. Submit Applications to: Community HealthCorps is a direct-service resource for Community Health Centers in San Francisco. The program engages HealthCorps members in service while expanding access to comprehensive, affordable and culturally appropriate health care for underserved San Franciscans. HealthCorps members are assigned on a full-time basis for 11 months, serving low-income communities in the area of health & human services. The Role of HealthCorps Members Full-time HealthCorps members serve full-time for eleven (11) months (40 hours per week, with a minimum commitment of 1,700 hours), beginning in September and running through the end of July. Each year, 18-22 full-time HealthCorps members and 10 or more Education Award-Only" members are placed at various sites to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of the communities in which they serve. HealthCorps members may act as health educators, medical assistants, case managers, outreach workers, or other positions as needed. Because each site has its own unique characteristics and offers a variety of specialized services, the daily activities of members vary according to where they are placed. The following are some of the direct service activities that members have been involved with during their term of service
Benefits Community HealthCorps members provide an extraordinary opportunity for individuals who are interested in learning and in serving their community. In addition to on-going health-specific training, Community HealthCorps members receive a living allowance of $12,000 for the term of service, health insurance, child care, loan forbearance, local transportation monthly passes, and an educational award ($4,725) at the completion of service terms that can be used for tuition at college/vocational school or to pay off qualified student loans.
